Kirkstall Road in Leeds, UK, is rapidly becoming one of the city’s busiest construction corridors, with three major developments transforming this key route along the River Aire.
From large-scale residential communities to purpose-built student accommodation, WOLFF cranes are playing a central role across every scheme - delivering the lifting capacity, reach, and reliability needed to keep construction progressing efficiently.
Kirkstall Road
At Kirkstall Road, Bowmer + Kirkland is delivering a landmark build-to-rent scheme, marking the first time the contractor has operated five cranes on a single site. The development will deliver more than 600 high‑quality, sustainable homes, revitalising what was once a disused brownfield site and turning it into a lively riverside neighbourhood, complete with inviting public spaces and thriving commercial areas.
To support construction, three WOLFF 6020.8 Clear and two WOLFF 166 B hydraulic luffing jib cranes have been deployed across the full footprint of the site. This configuration enables multiple buildings to rise simultaneously, maintaining efficient progress on this large and complex development.
Dyecoats
Further along Kirkstall Road, the Dyecoats development is taking shape as part of a wider 13-acre regeneration scheme being delivered by GRAHAM. At the heart of the project, Cidon Construction is responsible for delivering the groundworks and reinforced concrete frame package across the site.
The first phase of the development has seen Cidon successfully construct three residential tower blocks concurrently, rising to 17, 15 and 11 storeys.
Once complete, the Dyecoats scheme will provide more than 400 new homes, with over 50% allocated as affordable housing, making a major contribution to housing provision and urban regeneration within Leeds.
Supporting the construction programme are three WOLFF 166 B luffing jib cranes, which have formed part of Cidon’s fleet for the past nine years under a full-service agreement with WOLFFKRAN. The agreement continues to provide comprehensive support services including storage, maintenance, erection and dismantling, helping to ensure smooth and efficient project delivery throughout the build.
Torsion PBSA
At the same time, Torsion Group is delivering a 10-storey, 205-studio purpose-built student accommodation scheme on Kirkstall Road. Operating through its fully integrated model - as investor, developer, contractor and operator via LUNA Students.
The WOLFF 275 B luffing jib crane plays a key role in ensuring an efficient and well-coordinated lifting sequence throughout the programme, helping to keep construction running smoothly.
Shaping Leeds’ future skyline
Across all three developments, WOLFF cranes are helping shape a new skyline on Kirkstall Road - supporting complex builds, tight programmes and the delivery of much - needed residential space in Leeds.
