Sheffield, UK – October 2026. British construction company Mayo Civil Engineering is expanding its all-WOLFF fleet with eight new luffing jib cranes. After placing an initial order for six cranes, Mayo added two more units, underlining the Rochdale-based company's continued confidence in Wolffkran. The new cranes will support Mayo's construction projects across the North of England. Some of the first six cranes have already been delivered, with the remaining units scheduled to follow by the end of 2026. The two additional WOLFF cranes will join the fleet in 2027.
The order comprises three WOLFF 166 B, two WOLFF 235 B, two WOLFF 275 B and one WOLFF 355 B. Once all units have been delivered, Mayo's fleet will comprise 19 WOLFF tower cranes, all equipped with luffing jibs.
Two of the newly purchased WOLFF 166 B cranes are already operating at the Phoenix Iron Works development in Ancoats, Manchester. Together with a third WOLFF 166 B from Mayo's existing fleet, they are supporting construction of the £87.5 million mixed-use development. With a maximum lifting capacity of 12,0 tonnes and a jib length of up to 55,0 metres, the compact WOLFF 166 B is particularly well suited to urban construction sites where cranes have to work together in confined spaces.
One pack, many strengths
The other models in the order cover a broad range of lifting requirements. Developed with concrete frame contractors in mind, the WOLFF 235 B offers a maximum lifting capacity of 16,0 tonnes and stands out for its high operating speeds, reaching up to 130,0 metres per minute with its 60-kW hoist winch. The WOLFF 275 B can lift loads of up to 24,0 tonnes, while the WOLFF 355 B, the largest model in the order, offers a maximum lifting capacity of 28,0 tonnes and can still lift 4,0 tonnes at a 60-metre radius, making it particularly suited to high-rise construction projects.
All cranes can be installed on the proven standard WOLFF TV20/UV20 2x2-metre tower system, allowing them to integrate seamlessly into Mayo’s existing crane fleet. Service and maintenance support is provided by Wolffkran Ltd., based in Sheffield.
A partnership built to last
“This latest investment in addition to our existing fleet, further enables Mayo Civils to fully service our clients across our projects, whilst ensuring the business meets its ongoing commitment to provide a modern and reliable fleet of cranes,” says Gary Mayo, Owner and Managing Director of Mayo Civil Engineering.
Founded in 2005 by Gary Mayo, the family-owned company is headquartered in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Today, Mayo Civil Engineering employs around 600 people and generates annual revenues of approximately £80 million.
“We are delighted that Mayo Civils are continuing the excellent working relationship with Wolffkran, and have again chosen high-quality tower crane products to support their construction projects in the North of England,” says Dave Holder, Managing Director of Wolffkran Ltd.
