In the heart of Birmingham, UK, a new development is beginning to rise. The Smithfield House project by Prosperity Developments will deliver a mixed-use scheme, combining residential, communal, and commercial spaces within a 23‑storey building.
Construction began in November 2025, with WOLFFKRAN supporting the project using two WOLFF 630 B luffing jib cranes, well suited to the constraints of a busy urban environment.
The first crane was installed using a 500‑tonne mobile crane and was then used to assemble the second crane. Since then, both cranes have been operating alongside each other, supporting ongoing progress across the site.
The structure rises in stages, with a 9‑storey base and a main tower reaching 22 floors of habitable space. The project was designed and submitted through the Gateway 2 (GW2) building control approval process, receiving approval in October 2025, ahead of construction starting the following month.
Once completed, Smithfield House will provide 307 apartments, as well as shared spaces and a rooftop garden overlooking Birmingham’s skyline.
